Rosé Wines

Rosé wines are pink wines made from red grapes whose skins were removed after fermentation began.  They range in sweetness from very sweet to very bone dry.  Some are called White (Grape Name) or Rose of (Grape Name) depending on the red grape used to make them. The Rose of (Grape Name) name tends to be used if the wine is dry.  Flavors:  Strawberry, melon, rose, orange peel, cherry, and minerals.

Common Rosé varietals:  Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, and Pinot Noir.

Less Common Rosé varietals:   Cabernet, Merlot, Zinfandel, Sangiovese, & Syrah

Food pairings:  Dry Rosés go best with chicken salad, salmon, barbecued vegetables.  Sweet Rosés pair well with pasta and cream sauce, breads, and soft cheeses.
