Orange County Wine Society, California
The Orange County Wine Society, Inc. (OCWS) is a vibrant, nonprofit educational organization dedicated to promoting the knowledge, appreciation, and responsible enjoyment of wine. Founded to enhance understanding of winemaking, viticulture, and wine appreciation, OCWS proudly serves as the co-sponsor and main support group for the OC Fair Commercial Wine Competition and the OC Fair Home Wine Competition—two of California’s most respected wine events.
During the OC Fair, we celebrate the artistry of winemaking by showcasing award-winning wines at the Wine Courtyard at the OC Fair, where members volunteer to pour and educate more than a million fairgoers about the wines that earned top honors.
At OCWS, we celebrate our members—a diverse community united by a shared love of wine. Whether you’re just beginning your wine journey or have years of experience, you’ll find a welcoming environment filled with learning opportunities, camaraderie, and fun. We welcome every wine journey through monthly tastings, educational events, winery trips, and special dinners that bring people together over a shared passion.
Our members know that great wine doesn’t need to be expensive, and we value wine at every price point, celebrating quality and creativity across all styles and regions. From small family vineyards to international producers, we appreciate wineries everywhere, recognizing the hard work and talent that create exceptional wines from around the world.
Since 1981, we’ve supported the next generation of wine professionals by funding scholarships in Enology, Viticulture, and Culinary Arts—donating over $946,000 to students at eight California institutions. Through our Home Winemakers’ Group, we also nurture creativity and education right here in our community, offering tastings, workshops, and competitions that inspire lifelong discovery.
As a volunteer-driven organization, we honor our volunteers—the heart of OCWS—whose dedication and enthusiasm make every event possible. Together, we foster a culture of inclusion, kindness, and mutual respect. We promote responsible enjoyment of wine, encouraging moderation, safe transportation, and participation in Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) training.
We embrace new members with open arms, remembering that everyone starts somewhere. Our goal is to make every member feel valued, respected, and part of something special—a community built on friendship, learning, and the joy of sharing wine together.
