Courtyard Seminars are available to the public and members of the OCWS.  If you are interested in attending any of the following seminars, please call the Courtyard office 714 708-1639  Wed-Sunday noon-11pm or the OCWS office 714 708-1636 during business hours Mon-Fri 8am-4pm to make your payment and reserve your seats.

4 Sunday July 16 Wine Society Tips and Tricks This seminar will introduce our new members to some of the not-so secrets of our Wine Society family. We will learn how to pour wine at the fair including dealing with customers, finding them the right wine, proper glass filling and more. We will discuss the different jobs during the Wine Competition and how they work together. We will discuss some of the other events and jobs in the Wine Society. And mostly, we will enjoy a variety of unusual varietal wines and discuss the goals of our organization. 3:00 Ken Knapp $10
5 Sunday July 16 Cheese & Wine Pairing (Perfect Pairs, Perfect Partners) Join us for a unique tasting of cheeses from around California, the United States, and around the world paired with assorted wines, including medal & award winners.  Each wine will complement the cheeses and we will explain which wines and cheeses compliment each other.  You will get to sample 8 to 9 cheeses and wines during this class. 5:00 Carol Frank $30

If you thought wine pairing only works with gourmet foods, think again.  Let’s have some fun.  We will taste some common, everyday wine styles paired with actual foods from the OC Fair.  You’ll learn some simple tricks to make these pairings easy and fun.  And, since the fair runs only for a few weeks, we will give you ideas and tips so you can pair wines with similar, everyday foods all year long.  This seminar will be great fun for people with all levels of wine experience. 3:00 Ed Reyes/Sara Yeoman $25

11 Sunday July 23 Italian Varietals (Vino Amore – Tour Italy) This tasting features some of the over 300 varietals of wine that have crossed the Atlantic to be grown in California. Some you will know and some you will not. We will feature 3 whites and 5 Reds that may include common varietals such as Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio  and Barbera but may also feature lesser known ones like Arneis, Aglianico or Lagrein. 27 Saturday August 12 Dessert Wines (A Perfect Ending) Whether you choose to pour before or after a meal or with snacks, we will sample a wide range of sweeties. Depending upon what is available from the commercial judging, expect ports , muscat, sherry and riesling.We will sprinkle medal, non-medal, and perhaps, a mystery wine along with some food bits to test against the wines. 5:00 Walter Reiss $25
28 Sunday August 13 Zinfandel (It’s Zinful not to try!) A brief introduction to one of California’s native varietals. Emphasis will be placed on the distinctive characteristics of this varietal as well as a comparison of regional nuances. Goal is to compare Zins from the Central Coast, the Napa/Sonoma County areas, and the Amador County area depending on availability of wines.
