Au contraire\, my friends! What started as a way of gathering during the Covid quarantines has blossomed into quality time with friends\, both old and new. SUMMARY:2024 Annual Business Meeting
DESCRIPTION:(Signup once per household)\nThe OCWS Annual Business Meeting will be held on Friday\, September 6th at 7 PM.  In our continued efforts to reach the most members possible\, the meeting will again be presented via Zoom Webinar. \nThe meeting will focus on the current state of the organization\, including a year in review and financial status.  We will cover events and highlights of the year\, as well as discuss plans for the remainder of 2024. \nOur Annual Election for Board of Directors is upcoming\, and this meeting will give everyone the opportunity to hear from the candidates\, who will present their qualifications and goals. \nSign-ups for this event are required\, although there is no cost to attend.  A Zoom Webinar link will be sent to each attendee in advance of the meeting.  This is a member only event. \nPlease note that the former in-person social aspect of this event will be replaced with the Volunteer Recognition Reception on September 29th\, when we will present volunteer awards.  Honorees will receive notification in early September. \nOn behalf of the entire OCWS Board of Directors\, I encourage you to attend this important meeting.  The meeting will be conducted in accordance with the OCWS Bylaws and government regulations for 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. \nWe look forward to seeing you at this important business meeting.  For those unable to attend the annual business meeting\, a record will be posted for your viewing. \nCarolyn Christian\, President \n

We’re always happy to have new members join the fun and you will likely learn something new (or have the chance to teach us something new) and meet some people who enjoy wine. \nEach event has a theme\, but we never “kick anyone off the island\,” so it never matters if you follow the theme. The setting is very casual\, with stories told about each of the wines we’re drinking\, what we do (or don’t) like about them\, where we got them\, and more. \nRegardless of your knowledge of wine\, the Varietal Hours have something for everyone. Varietal Hours are held every other Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. \nAll you need is a computer (or phone) and internet connection. DESCRIPTION:The Annual Business Meeting of the OCWS will be held on Friday\, September 8th at 7pm.  In striving to be fiscally responsible and reach the most members possible\, the meeting will be presented via Zoom. \nDuring the meeting\, attendees will hear updated information about the current state of the organization\, including our financial condition.  Accomplishments during the last year will be highlighted\, including recaps of our two wine competitions\, the wine auction and the Courtyard at the OC Fair\, as well as plans for the remainder of 2023. \nOur Annual Election of three members for the Board of Directors is upcoming and the meeting will give members the opportunity to meet the candidates who will present their qualifications. \nSign-up for attendance is currently open on our OCWS website under the Events tab.  A Zoom link will be sent to each attendee in advance of the meeting.  There is no cost to attend this Zoom meeting. \nThe 2022/23 OCWS Board of Directors looks forward to you attending as we review the past year and look forward to the upcoming 2023/24 board year.  The meeting will be conducted in accordance with OCWS Bylaws and government regulations for 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations. \nWe look forward to having you log into this important business event. \nFran Gitsham\, President

SUMMARY:Varietal Hour – Spanish Varietal Wines
DESCRIPTION:How many wine grape varieties are there? What does it mean for a wine to be vegan? Which wine grapes are part of the Rhone varieties? \nThese are the types of information we learn about each time we have a Varietal Hour. Want to learn more and have fun doing it? Come join us! \nThe OCWS Varietal Hours are held 7-8 p.m. every other Monday via Zoom. Singles and couples from the OCWS join us each week to discuss the pre-designated topic and describe the wine they brought to share. Some attendees find something they have in their own cellar already and others use Varietal Hours as an opportunity to go to their favorite wine store and try something new. \nAlthough the event is FREE to OCWS members\, sign-ups are required. Please log on to the OCWS website to register for this event no later than the Sunday night before the Varietal Hour. Couples only need to sign up for one person since this event is via Zoom. \nA link for the meeting is emailed to you on the day of the event.
