SUMMARY:Kit Wine Making Class
DESCRIPTION:For the 7th consecutive year\, the Wine Makers group is offering a “kit wine making” class for OCWS members who may be interested in making wine\, but are intimidated by the “process” of securing and processing the grapes or their time does not match the availability of the matured grapes\, usually available only during the Fall.  The class is continually updated with new techniques and methods to make the best wine possible & be successful each and every time!  The session is a lot of hands-on fun delivered in an easy to understand and non-threatening format.  Each attendee goes home with a bottle of kit wine that they have personally poured\, corked and labelled. \nThe Kit Wine class has produced graduates that have used kit wines to earn Honorable mention\, Bronze\, Silver\, and Gold and Double Gold medals at the OCWS Home Wine Competition!  The class is so easy and foolproof that we’ve even taught several of\, our OCWS Board of Directors to make wine\, (really good wine)! \nThe class is being held again this year at its original venue\, the shady open-air comfort of Kern Vogel’s back yard porch in Lake Forest!  Kern will again be assisted this year by Mike Iglesias\, a kit wine Gold Medal winner at the OCWS Home Wine Competition. \nThis is the seminar for you if you want a fast moving class that utilizes most all of your senses –  Touch\, Sight\, Smell\, and TASTE! \nThis class will cover all phases of the kit wine making process!  The attendees will experience making wine made from prepackaged juice\, physically taking a wine kit from Fed Ex receipt\, checked mid-course for specific gravity\, stabilized and cleared\, bottled\, corked and labeled. Graduates leave the class with a bottle of wine that they have bottled\, corked\, & labeled themselves. \nThe Class sessions will include: \nPart I – Introduction to wine kits including explanation of the various types of kit concentrates\, kit suppliers\, ingredients in those kits\, equipment needed\, and “The Ten Commandments of Kit Making” \nPart II – “Hands-on” – starting a kit\, checking specific gravity\, clearing and stabilizing a kit mid process\, filtering\, bottling and labeling.  This part is much like a TV cooking class wherein the kits are pre-prepared and to show critical wine making procedures at the correct wine making stages. \nPart III – “Tasting & Talking!!!” – Actual wines made from kits will be available to taste\, (as will a few crackers and cheeses). \nAnd remember\, you will depart with a bottle of wine that you have personally poured\, corked and labelled.
