SUMMARY:Tear Down Courtyard
DESCRIPTION:After 3 1/2 gritty days and through daily obstacle courses of the OC Fair setting up around us\, our Courtyard set-up crew hope that our members and visitors enjoy a way to “Find Your Happy.” We are already making plans for the 50th anniversary for 2026 Courtyard at the OC Fair next year. \nThe efforts of our dedicated set-up crew will help the OCWS earn TWO of our largest sources of annual scholarships and get ready for the servers\, cashiers and stewards that will last throughout our upcoming events. \nNow\, it will all be torn down. We need your help as everything will be stowed away to get ready for next year. It would be helpful if you have a pickup truck. Please be respectful to our neighbor vendors as there will be activity around us. The teardown crew will meet on Monday\, Aug. 18 and moving out Tuesday\, Aug. 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Courtyard. \nAlso\, we may have the opportunity to purchase the live plants displayed in The Courtyard from Centennial Farm. Please bring cash only and a way to carry them out. You’ll know we took good care of them! \nPlease sign up directly at Les@ocws.org \, so we can plan for ever-changing updates and lunch. Cheers to the entire 2025 Courtyard Committee\, especially our teardown volunteers. \n—Leslie Hodowanec\, Courtyard Teardown Coordinator

Be ready bid on your favorite basket. The proceeds of the Silent Auction will go to the Scholarship Fund. Winners may pay by cash or with credit cards. \nAgain\, we are fortunate to have the Wine Wall during this event. Buy a bottle of wine for $20! Get lucky and pick an expensive bottle! It’s a great way to try wines and to support the Scholarships. These purchases at the Wine Wall are with CASH only. \nMusic and dancing all afternoon. Once again\, we are so fortunate to have a great DJ to play for us. He will play throughout the entire event! Get you dancing shoes on and be ready to have great time! \nWhat’s a Social without some games??? We will have door prizes and games to keep the fun rolling.  There will also be prizes for the best looks. Since we’ll be celebrating the flowering of Spring\, have fun with the theme and arrive in your smartest Spring attire. Take inspiration from the previous week’s Kentucky Derby\, echoing the vibrant and stylish fashion on parade. \nHere are some ideas: \nFor Women: Large elaborate hats adorned with flowers\, feathers or ribbons.  Spring dresses in bright colors or floral patterns. Statement accessories such as large sunglasses or bold jewelry. \nFor Men: Light colored suits or linen with a crisp shirt.  Fedoras or straw hats adds a touch of sophistication along with a bowtie\, pocket square or colorful tie. \nPrizes will be given out in the following categories: \nBest Floral Frocks:  Couples or Individual Costumes \nBest Use of the Theme “Vines in Bloom”: \nMost Fabulous Fascinator:  Women’s Hat \nMost Debonaire Chapeau:  Men’s Hat \nWhat a fun\, colorful way to celebrate Spring! \nAnother game will be used as an Ice Breaker to provide a fun way for people to meet others. Again\, we will have drawings for prizes for this game! \nAnd WINE!! You are invited to bring a bottle of wine to share with your table and friends. The OCWS is also providing wines for you for the entire event. See below for an opportunity to volunteer to serve the wines during this event.

SUMMARY:Wine Blending Seminar
DESCRIPTION:The Winemakers Group will present a wine blending educational seminar Sunday\, April 7 in the Wine Courtyard at OC Fair and Event Center.  OCWS winemaker Ed Reyes will explain the wine blending basics\, then team you with others to create blends. \nAll OCWS members are welcome to attend this NEW\, “hands-on” class.  Though highly useful to winemakers\, everyone will learn something from this fun and informative class.  Winemakers\, if you’re processing several varietals\, learn to create something unique through blending.  Non-winemakers\, learn how blending can make ordinary wines better. \nThe class will be divided into two parts.  In part 1\, you will learn the simple steps involved in making a blend\, how to approach blending two or more wines\, when to blend\, and when not to.  In part 2\, you’ll team with others to make your own wine blends from different varietals we will provide. \nCost is $20 per person.  Light snacks will be served.  Signups will open March 1 on the OCWS website.  Whether you’re a winemaker or not\, you’re sure to learn something from this fun NEW seminar.

On April 6\, from 3-7 p.m. in The Courtyard at the Orange County Fairgrounds\, we will be wining\, dancing\, eating\, auctioning and enjoying good times with our members and their guests. \n  \nNew Orleans is a city filled with history\, superstitions\, religion\, celebrations\, and beauty. Watch the Events section of the calendar for the opportunity to purchase your tickets. They do go quickly!! \nParking is free for this event. A parking map will be emailed a few days prior to the event. \nVolunteers will be needed for the sign-in desk\, wine Servers\, set up\, clean up\, food servers and silent auction assistance. You can volunteer on the website when you purchase your tickets. \n  \nThe last day to purchase tickets is April 3\, 2024\, by close of business of the OCWS office at 4 p.m. \n–Alice Polser\, Membership Events Co-chair \n  \nDonations Wanted! \n  \nThe Spring Membership Event has two ways to support the OCWS Scholarship Program. \n  \nThe Wine Wall: you can win a bottle of wine for $20. We typically raise at least $1\,000 for scholarships each time we have the Wine Wall. \n  \nWe are looking for donations of wine. The wines must be valued at $20 or more. It is so fun to win a great bottle of wine and just as fun to watch people try a bottle you donated! \n  \n The Silent Auction: all proceeds go to the scholarship program. SUMMARY:Oktoberween 2018
DESCRIPTION:The “Haunted” Courtyard on the grounds of the OC Fair \n \nOctober means Oktoberfest with authentic German Bratwurst\, sauerkraut\, potato salad\, and beer. But it also means Halloween with costumes\, tricks\, treats\, and wine. \nSo we are having both! \nPut your “creative” minds to work and show up in your favorite Halloween or Oktoberfest costumes\, and enjoy some good food\, wine\, beer\, games\, contests\, music and\, dancing – yes\, this includes the Chicken Dance! \nThe cost will be $45 for members and $50 for non-members. \nPlease remember to sign up early as last year’s Fall Event was a sell out! \nAs with all of our events\, they only happen because members like you are willing to step forward and volunteer to help. We will be looking for volunteers to help with the set-up\, decorating\, food serving\, wine serving\, clean up\, check-in\, raffle sales\, wine wall\, and a few floaters. \nYou can sign up to volunteer when you register for the event on the OCWS website. \nHope to see you there! \n-Terry Mclean\, Event Chair
