SUMMARY:2023 Wine Auction: Great Wines for a Better Cause!
DESCRIPTION:The OCWS Wine Auction is an event that many of us look forward to each year!  It is a time to see our  friends\, share some wine and great food\, and fill our personal cellars with great California wines at great prices!  While you might think that the OCWS Wine Auction is held each year just to empty out the OCWS cellar in preparation for this year’s wine competition\, it is more crucially our second most important fundraiser of the year\, just behind the Wine Courtyard during the OC Fair.  As a reminder\, the OCWS is a 501c(3) organization with a mission to support wine education.  We do this through our programming at the OC Fair (wine tasting\, seminars\, featured wineries)\, Winery Programs during the Spring\, and WineCompetition.com\, which features all of the winners from the OC Fair Commercial Wine Competition.  But by far our biggest support of wine education is the OCWS Scholarship fund\, which this year surpassed the ¾ of a million dollars mark in donations to 8 California colleges and universities with wine and culinary arts related programs. \nFor those who have never attended the event\, here is what to expect… \n\nOver 1\,000 Silent Auction Lots – Placed in order on tables that span the event venue.\nOver 100 Verbal Auction Lots – Auctioned off randomly by our professional auctioneer.\nAll lots consist of 4 bottles of quality California wine curated by our own cellarmaster and his team who have spent weeks putting together the lots.\nPrinted and electronic catalogue of the auction lots will be available for attendees a few weeks before the event.\nMystery lots of wine are available at a crazy low price and can be ordered at the beginning of the event\, guaranteeing you will go home with something.\nFood and wine are served throughout the event in several courses (appetizers\, entrees\, and desserts).\nDoors open at 11 AM and bidding starts immediately.\nSilent auction lots will be picked up randomly throughout the event until 4:30 PM.\nThe checkout process will begin shortly after 5 PM and will conclude when all wines have been paid for and picked up. No early checkout is available under any circumstances.  Please plan to stay until 6 PM.\n\nSo whether you are looking to fill your wine cellar with some great deals on California wines\, spend some time with friends enjoying great wine and food\, or you want to show your support for the wine industry by contributing to the OCWS Scholarship Fund\, the OCWS Wine Auction has you covered!  The OCWS has been pairing Wine Education and Fun for decades\, and this event is no exception! At only $20 per person for wine\, food\, friends and a chance to get some great deals on wine\, the Wine Auction is a bargain!  You can get even more involved by contributing your time as a volunteer during part of the event. \nNEW THIS YEAR!  All volunteers who sign up and show up for their assigned shift(s) at the Wine Auction will be entered into a raffle drawing for the following prizes: \n– Pair of Tickets to ZD Tasting Program \n– Pair of Tickets to Jimmy Buffet Party \n– Pair of Tickets to any 2023 OC Fair Wine Seminar \n– $50 Voucher to be used for future OCWS Event \n– Wine Gift Basket \nDrawing will be held the week following the Wine Auction and winners will be notified.  Winners who have already purchased tickets to the event they win will be refunded their ticket price. \nPlease join us on Saturday\, April 22nd at the OC Fair and Event Center for our annual Wine Auction (a members only event)!  Thank you in advance for your support of the OCWS and our mission to promote wine education. \nVolunteer at the auction. \n—Carolyn Christian\nOCWS Board Director

SUMMARY:2021 OCWS Wine Auction
DESCRIPTION:This is a member only event.  Please plan to stay for the entire event.  No early checkout is available\nA printed copy of the Bid Catalog will be available the week before the auction.   \nMark your calendars! We will be having our annual Wine Auction at a special time this year\, on Saturday\, October 16 from 11 am to 5 pm in the Costa Mesa Building of the OC Fair & Event Center. Don’t miss this great opportunity to fill up your wine cellar at some great prices!  This event replaces the 2020 Wine Auction which was scheduled for April 2020 and had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. The Auction will feature the wines from the 2019 OC Fair Commercial Wine Competition\, which have been stored in a temperature and humidity controlled cellar since June 2019. \nThe Wine Auction features both silent and verbal auction lots from some of the best wines submitted for the Commercial Wine Competition. Enjoy an afternoon of delicious food and wine with your OC Wine Society friends as you bid on your favorite varietals and wineries. Special lots will also be available for purchase without having to bid. \nThis is your annual opportunity to purchase these wines at a fraction of their retail value. Tickets are only $20 per member for this members-only event!  We recommend that you bring your own wine glass and pens and wear comfortable shoes. Please plan to stay for the entire event\, as we cannot accommodate early checkouts! We will be adding a new type of checkout through online payment this year to help speed up the process (the standard check and credit card checkout will still be available). Watch the weekly reminders for upcoming volunteer opportunities for the Wine Auction. \nPlease note that this event will be following the COVID protocols outlined by the OC Fair and Event Center. All attendees should be either vaccinated or have a negative COVID test within 72 hours of the event. We ask those who are showing any symptoms or have been exposed to someone who has had COVID within the two weeks prior to the event not to attend.
