Happy Holidays from the Seminar Committee. \n– Sara Yeoman\, Seminar Committee ChairAttendee – \nWho is Willie Gluckstern? \nWhile creating the seminar to be presented on Sunday\, December 27 at 3 pm\, which is mainly based around the celebratory beverage\, Champagne\, and dessert pairings\, we came across many famous quotes from notables like Dom Perignon\, Winston Churchill\, Bette Davis and Coco Chanel\, but the one that caught our eye goes like this: “In a perfect world\, everyone would have a glass of Champagne every evening.” This quote is attributed to one Willie Gluckstern\, a forty-plus year veteran of the NYC wine business. We thought to ourselves\, “who the hell is Willie Gluckstern?\,” but in the long run\, it really didn’t matter a wit to us. It just mattered that we love Champagne and its many iterations so much that\, in our perfect world\, we would have a glass (or more) every day\, so thank you Willie and drink on. \nThis virtual gathering was born of our love of the bubbly beverage\, which we want to share with you (along with what very minute actual knowledge we have) and some little known facts and fiction surrounding Champagne\, the drink of choice for many a celebration. While sipping sparkling (provided to you by you\, of course) and looking forward to ringing in the much anticipated and awaited New Year (we don’t think anyone will be sorry to see 2020 be a thing of the past)\, we are hopeful to share laughs and loving memories of better pre-COVID times and making new memories to carry us into 2021. We would love for you to come spend an hour with us just for the fun of it and\, if you are so inclined\, to offer up a story or favorite dessert pairing. DESCRIPTION:Please note:  Family members watching the webinar together only need to signup one member to attend this session.  This saves webinar connections for other members. \nWith the holidays upon us\, the OCWS Seminar Committee is proud to present a fun Holiday Food & Wine pairing seminar on Sunday\, November 22 at 3 pm. \nSign-ups will be open on the OCWS website starting Monday\, November 2 and\, if space is still available\, the last day to sign-up will be Wednesday\, November 18. \nZoom links for attendance will be sent out to those who sign-up in the days prior to the event. SUMMARY:Fall Membership BBQ & Return of the Chili Cook Off
DESCRIPTION:Sold Out -please call the office to be placed on a waitlist\nTHE RETURN OF THE CHILI COOK OFF \nEnjoy the competitors’ homemade chili\, accompanied by a BBQ menu provided by the Cooks Caucus\, wine\, beer\, live band\, and dancing! \nFor this to be a success\, we will need about 20 members willing to “take the challenge” and put their homemade chili up against their peers in a competition judged by culinary professionals. Prizes will be awarded for winners in each category listed below\, assuming sufficient entrants: \n\nBest Traditional Chili – with beans\nBest Traditional Chili – without beans\nBest Vegetarian Chili\nBest Chili Using Wine\nBest Chili Submitted by a New Member\nMembers Choice (voted on by those in attendance)\nBest Decorated Work / Presentation Area\n\nAll chili entrants will receive free admission to this event for themselves and one additional teammate\, plus a free bottle of wine as a thank you for participating. (You might also win an award if your chili wins one of the categories!) Please read the “Chili Cook Off Rules” below: \n\nContestants – OCWS Chili Cook Off Information \nI would like to thank you for volunteering to compete in the 2019 OCWS Chili Cook Off to be held on Saturday\, September 21st at the Courtyard in the OC Fair Grounds. \nThe rules for the competition are as follows: \nChili Cook Off Rules  \n\nEach Team will consist of no more than two cooks\, one of whom must be a member of the OCWS. (if your membership is soon due to expire – make sure you renew before the competition)\n\n\nEach Chili Team will have four linear feet of work/display area to use and decorate. (you will be sharing an 8-foot table with another competitor)\n\n\nEach entry must provide at least six quarts of their homemade chili.\n\n\n Judging of the chili will start promptly at 1:00 PM.\n\n\nJudging of your booth theme/decorations will start about 2:30 PM\, followed shortly thereafter with tasting of the chili by the attending OCWS members and guests.\n\n\nYou will need to provide a way to keep the chili heated (crock pot\, etc.)\n\n\nIf you’ll need electricity\, you must furnish your own heavy-duty extension cord. (we have contracted with the OC Fair to provide the extra electrical outlets)\n\n\nBring your own ladle or spoon for serving.
