DESCRIPTION:Join us for the last two Varietal Hours of the season! These Zoom meetings are a great way to share knowledge and fun stories about wine. Regardless of where you are on your wine enthusiast journey\, you will definitely learn something new each time we meet. \nEvery other Monday from 7 -8 p.m.\, a fun-loving group of OCWS members meet via Zoom to discuss wines with a particular theme. Pick a bottle that you already have in your cellar or use the Varietal Hours as an opportunity to go to your favorite wine store to buy something new. Each participant shares what they like — or didn’t like — about their wine(s) and some great stories related to the week’s theme. \nAlthough the event is FREE to OCWS members\, sign-ups are required. Please logon to the OCWS website to register for this event no later than the Sunday night before the Varietal Hour. SUMMARY:2023 Wine Auction: Great Wines for a Better Cause!
DESCRIPTION:The OCWS Wine Auction is an event that many of us look forward to each year!  It is a time to see our  friends\, share some wine and great food\, and fill our personal cellars with great California wines at great prices!  While you might think that the OCWS Wine Auction is held each year just to empty out the OCWS cellar in preparation for this year’s wine competition\, it is more crucially our second most important fundraiser of the year\, just behind the Wine Courtyard during the OC Fair.  As a reminder\, the OCWS is a 501c(3) organization with a mission to support wine education.  We do this through our programming at the OC Fair (wine tasting\, seminars\, featured wineries)\, Winery Programs during the Spring\, and WineCompetition.com\, which features all of the winners from the OC Fair Commercial Wine Competition.  But by far our biggest support of wine education is the OCWS Scholarship fund\, which this year surpassed the ¾ of a million dollars mark in donations to 8 California colleges and universities with wine and culinary arts related programs. \nFor those who have never attended the event\, here is what to expect… \n\nOver 1\,000 Silent Auction Lots – Placed in order on tables that span the event venue.\nOver 100 Verbal Auction Lots – Auctioned off randomly by our professional auctioneer.\nAll lots consist of 4 bottles of quality California wine curated by our own cellarmaster and his team who have spent weeks putting together the lots.\nPrinted and electronic catalogue of the auction lots will be available for attendees a few weeks before the event.\nMystery lots of wine are available at a crazy low price and can be ordered at the beginning of the event\, guaranteeing you will go home with something.\nFood and wine are served throughout the event in several courses (appetizers\, entrees\, and desserts).\nDoors open at 11 AM and bidding starts immediately.\nSilent auction lots will be picked up randomly throughout the event until 4:30 PM.\nThe checkout process will begin shortly after 5 PM and will conclude when all wines have been paid for and picked up. No early checkout is available under any circumstances.  Please plan to stay until 6 PM.\n\nSo whether you are looking to fill your wine cellar with some great deals on California wines\, spend some time with friends enjoying great wine and food\, or you want to show your support for the wine industry by contributing to the OCWS Scholarship Fund\, the OCWS Wine Auction has you covered!  The OCWS has been pairing Wine Education and Fun for decades\, and this event is no exception! DESCRIPTION:It is that time of year again!  Get ready to don your fancy clothes\, slip on your dancing shoes\, and head to the OCWS Holiday Dinner Dance!  The OCWS is excited to announce that the 2022 OCWS Holiday Dinner Dance will be held on Saturday\, December 3 at the DoubleTree by Hilton on Nutwood Avenue\, near the 57 Freeway\, in Fullerton. \nThe evening begins in the foyer with a sparkling wine reception and passed hors d’eouvres like bruschetta\, pot stickers\, stuffed mushrooms\, shrimp shooters\, and chicken empanadas. Then join us in the ballroom for an amazing plated dinner. \nDinner Menu \nSalad Course: \nFresh Greens\, Cucumbers\, Tomatoes\, Croutons\, and Dressing \nYour Choice of Entrée: \nChicken Piccata – Breast of Chicken with Lemon Garlic Cream Sauce and Capers \nPetit Filet Mignon – Charbroiled Tenderloin of Beef\,\nFinished with a Bearnaise Sauce \nThree Cheese Ravioli – Ravioli topped with a Tomato Cream Sauce \nAll entrees include Pesto Potatoes\, Seasonal Steamed\nVegetables\, Rolls & Butter \nDessert: \nAssorted Chocolate Cakes & Chef’s Choice Cakes \nCoffee & Iced Tea Included \nA variety of wines will be provided by the OCWS\, but you are welcome to bring your own bottle to share (corkage is included in the price). \nAfter dinner\, be ready to dance the night away to live music provided by our friends “Three 2 Sevens.” The night will be filled with holiday cheer and many of your OCWS friends to help “Uncork the Holidays”!  This year’s event will feature our own photo booth area for you to take great photos of you and your OCWS friends in your holiday best! \nThe cost of this 4-course meal\, wine\, and live music is an amazing $95 for members and their guests. DESCRIPTION:Great deals on award-winning wines are in your near future! \nGoing once\, going twice…it is almost here!  The annual OCWS Wine Auction is just a few weeks away. Join us on Saturday\, April 23\,  for a fun day of wine\, food\, and bidding for a great cause! This event provides you with the unique opportunity to fill your wine cellar with wines from the 2021 OC Fair Commercial Wine Competition. You can buy wines at a fraction of the retail price in both silent and verbal lots to support the OCWS and its educational programming! Tickets are only $20 for this MEMBERS ONLY event. Sign-up to attend and to volunteer on the OCWS website. \nThis year’s event will take place at the OC Fair & Event Center in the Huntington Beach building (adjacent to The Wine Courtyard). Attendees are encouraged to bring pens\, a wine glass\, folding chair\, and comfortable walking shoes. The Auction catalogue will be available both online and in hard copy a few weeks before the event. The Varietal Hour committee has chosen a number of themes for the next few months to test your wine knowledge and push you to try things you might not otherwise try. The Varietal Hour committee has chosen a number of themes for the next few months to test your wine knowledge and push you to try things you might not otherwise try. Each attendee is asked to bring to the Zoom meeting a wine related to that week’s theme (you can choose something from your cellar or be adventurous in trying something new from your favorite wine store). Each attendee shares a brief description of their wine during the meeting\, and all attendees are provided with a written list via email of the wines that were shared during the event. Sign-ups for this event are done in advance on the OCWS website and a link for the meeting is emailed to you on the day of the event. \nWe welcome you to volunteer to be the host for one of the open weeks below. DESCRIPTION:With the reopening of public spaces\, OCWS is now presenting most of its events in person once again. However\, at the request of our members\, we are continuing to hold the OCWS Varietal Hours via Zoom every other Monday evening in 2022\, beginning on January 10th. The event provides a great opportunity for members to explore new varietals and engage in lively discussions about their favorite wines and wine regions.
