DESCRIPTION:The OCWS In-Person Wine Auction is one of the most anticipated events of the year and the second-largest fundraiser for the Orange County Wine Society. DESCRIPTION:The OCWS Wine Auction is our second biggest fundraiser of the year. It is a chance for us to clear out our wine cellar in preparation for the 2025 OC Fair Commercial Wine Competition and Wine Courtyard. As a nonprofit organization\, we rely on the auction to also help us fund educational programming for our members and the public at the OC Fair and to support our scholarship program\, which provides scholarships for eight California educational institutions with degrees in enology\, viticulture and culinary arts. The auction is also a benefit of your OCWS membership because it gives you the unique opportunity to restock your cellar and purchase wines from last year’s competition at a fraction of the retail price. \nThe 2025 Wine Auction is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday\, April 19 at the OC Fair and Event Center in the Huntington Beach building. DESCRIPTION:(Signup once per household)\nThe OCWS Annual Business Meeting will be held on Friday\, September 6th at 7 PM.  In our continued efforts to reach the most members possible\, the meeting will again be presented via Zoom Webinar. \nThe meeting will focus on the current state of the organization\, including a year in review and financial status.  We will cover events and highlights of the year\, as well as discuss plans for the remainder of 2024. \nOur Annual Election for Board of Directors is upcoming\, and this meeting will give everyone the opportunity to hear from the candidates\, who will present their qualifications and goals. \nSign-ups for this event are required\, although there is no cost to attend.  A Zoom Webinar link will be sent to each attendee in advance of the meeting.  This is a member only event. \nPlease note that the former in-person social aspect of this event will be replaced with the Volunteer Recognition Reception on September 29th\, when we will present volunteer awards.  Honorees will receive notification in early September. \nOn behalf of the entire OCWS Board of Directors\, I encourage you to attend this important meeting.  The meeting will be conducted in accordance with the OCWS Bylaws and government regulations for 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. \nWe look forward to seeing you at this important business meeting.  For those unable to attend the annual business meeting\, a record will be posted for your viewing. \nCarolyn Christian\, President \n

DESCRIPTION:It’s Time To Restock Those Wine Cellars!\nThe annual OCWS Wine Auction has become part of the cycle of life for our organization!  Each year\, we catalogue and serve wine at the OC Fair Commercial Wine Competition and OC Fair Wine Courtyard.  And the following Spring\, we do our Spring Cleaning in preparation for the next year’s Competition and Courtyard. What does this mean for you?  It means a great opportunity to purchase wines at a fraction of retail and fill your personal wine cellar! \nThe 2024 Wine Auction is scheduled for Saturday\, April 20\, 2024!   The event will take place at the OC Fair and Event Center in the Huntington Beach building.  If you have never attended this event\, we highly recommend it.  Enjoy the afternoon with wine\, food\, and the opportunity to support our scholarship program which benefits 8 California colleges and universities that provide wine-related and culinary arts degrees.  The OCWS Wine Auction is limited to OCWS members only\, and tickets are available online. At $25/person\, the event is one of the best deals around!  Volunteer opportunities are also available before\, during and after the event. DESCRIPTION:The heat of the summer has barely faded\, Halloween has yet to arrive\, but it is time to start planning for a long-time OCWS tradition: the OCWS Holiday Dinner Dance. Yes\, it’s time to think about what you are going to wear and who is going to sit at your table for an amazing evening of festivities. We are excited to announce that the 2023 OCWS Holiday Dinner Dance will be held on Friday\, Dec. 1 at the Avenue of the Arts Hotel near the Segerstrom Center in Costa Mesa. \nThe evening begins with a sparkling wine reception and passed hors d’oeuvres such as bacon wrapped dates stuffed with gorgonzola cheese and maple chipotle aioli and feta and spinach in a puff pastry with pomegranate dipping sauce. Do we have your attention yet? The evening progresses with an amazing plated dinner in the ballroom. \nDinner Menu \nSalad Course: \nMixed greens\, pomegranate seeds\, goat cheese\, toasted pumpkin seeds and raspberry vinaigrette dressing \nYour Choice of Entrée: \n\nRoulade of stuffed chicken breast – dried fruit and nut stuffing\, creamy herb risotto\, ragout of root vegetables and roasted chicken herb gravy\nRoasted 6 oz. top sirloin steak – herb and cheese twice baked potato\, roasted parsnips and peppercorn Cabernet jus.\nVegetarian pumpkin ravioli – toasted almonds\, crispy leeks and thyme Buerre Noisette\n\nDessert: \nChocolate ganache tart – raspberry coulise \nBread\, coffee & iced tea Included \nA variety of wines will be provided by the OCWS\, but you are welcome to bring your own bottle to share (corkage is included in the price). SUMMARY:2023 Wine Auction: Great Wines for a Better Cause!
DESCRIPTION:The OCWS Wine Auction is an event that many of us look forward to each year!  It is a time to see our  friends\, share some wine and great food\, and fill our personal cellars with great California wines at great prices!  While you might think that the OCWS Wine Auction is held each year just to empty out the OCWS cellar in preparation for this year’s wine competition\, it is more crucially our second most important fundraiser of the year\, just behind the Wine Courtyard during the OC Fair.  As a reminder\, the OCWS is a 501c(3) organization with a mission to support wine education.  We do this through our programming at the OC Fair (wine tasting\, seminars\, featured wineries)\, Winery Programs during the Spring\, and WineCompetition.com\, which features all of the winners from the OC Fair Commercial Wine Competition.  But by far our biggest support of wine education is the OCWS Scholarship fund\, which this year surpassed the ¾ of a million dollars mark in donations to 8 California colleges and universities with wine and culinary arts related programs. \nFor those who have never attended the event\, here is what to expect… \n\nOver 1\,000 Silent Auction Lots – Placed in order on tables that span the event venue.\nOver 100 Verbal Auction Lots – Auctioned off randomly by our professional auctioneer.\nAll lots consist of 4 bottles of quality California wine curated by our own cellarmaster and his team who have spent weeks putting together the lots.\nPrinted and electronic catalogue of the auction lots will be available for attendees a few weeks before the event.\nMystery lots of wine are available at a crazy low price and can be ordered at the beginning of the event\, guaranteeing you will go home with something.\nFood and wine are served throughout the event in several courses (appetizers\, entrees\, and desserts).\nDoors open at 11 AM and bidding starts immediately.\nSilent auction lots will be picked up randomly throughout the event until 4:30 PM.\nThe checkout process will begin shortly after 5 PM and will conclude when all wines have been paid for and picked up. No early checkout is available under any circumstances.  Please plan to stay until 6 PM.\n\nSo whether you are looking to fill your wine cellar with some great deals on California wines\, spend some time with friends enjoying great wine and food\, or you want to show your support for the wine industry by contributing to the OCWS Scholarship Fund\, the OCWS Wine Auction has you covered!  The OCWS has been pairing Wine Education and Fun for decades\, and this event is no exception! We will never replace the amazing feeling of getting together in person and sharing wine and knowledge\, but we have a great time challenging ourselves to try new things during the Varietal Hours and we invite you to join us! \nThe Varietal Hours are held every other Monday at 7 p.m. via Zoom\, and the upcoming themes are listed below. Grab a wine that fits a theme from your cellar or venture out to your favorite wine store for something new! \nEach Varietal Hour we will discuss that week’s theme and share what we like about the wine(s) we have chosen. This event is a great way to learn about wines you haven’t tried before and see if someone shares a wine that appeals to your wine palate.
