DESCRIPTION:The OC Fair Commercial Wine Competition is one of the largest single events that the OCWS coordinates and runs each year.  With an average of upwards of 2\,500 wines being judged in any given year by a prestigious panel of 90 judges of the caliber of such well known winemakers as Steve Lohr\, Carol Shelton\, Joseph S. SUMMARY:OC Fair Home Wine Competition
DESCRIPTION:The Orange County Wine Society\, in conjunction with the OC Fair\,  has sponsored the OC Fair Home Wine Competition since 1976. This competition is open to all amateur home winemakers in California. It is one of the largest amateur home wine competitions in the USA. The judging is double blind and the scoring is based on a modified UC Davis 20 point scale. To ensure continuity in the valuation and scoring of the wines\, we hold judging workshops prior to each year’s competition. \nThe winemakers who enter the competition do so not just for the bragging rights of the awards but also to get feedback from the judges. Judges have some discretion. Some wines have faults and some do not. If a judge marks a wine lower for a characteristic that can be corrected\, the winemaker can then make an adjustment to his/her wine prior to finishing and bottling. That is probably the most valuable feedback for the competition entrants. \nThe competition is held in early June. Four Best of Show awards (for Red\, White\, Fruit and Dessert Wines) are announced the day of the competition with the remaining awards posted the next day. The medals will be mailed about 4-6 weeks later. \nLabels are also judged during this competition. Awards are presented for Best of Show along with Gold\, Silver\, and Bronze in each label category. \nThe OCWS Winemakers group provides the management for the competition. This continues to be the largest annual activity for the Winemakers group.

SUMMARY:OC Fair Commercial Wine Competition
DESCRIPTION:The 46th OC Fair Commercial Wine Competition will be held June 4-5th at the Hilton Hotel in Costa Mesa. \nThe Orange County Wine Society and the OC Fair and Event Center sponsor the Competition which judges wines made only from grapes grown in California. There are no entry fees and the wines are judged by professional winemakers or winery principals. The wines are cataloged by varietal\, price and sugar levels. In 2021\, over 2400 wines were entered. \nThe wines will be available to purchase by the glass at the OC Fair in the Courtyard staffed by OCWS volunteers. Volunteers have a lot of fun working with our members and at the end of the day\, they also have the opportunity to take multiple partially full bottles of wine home (for their volunteer effort).
