DESCRIPTION:Join the fun on Tuesday nights from home \nNow that the OC Fair is in our rearview mirror\, we will start up our Varietal Hours on Tuesday nights again. More new and varied themes are on the horizon. We predict that the remainder of 2026 will be filled with more exciting themes and revelations about wine. \nAnd the best thing? They are FREE. What started as a way of gathering during the COVID quarantines has blossomed into quality time with friends\, both old and new. And the things we have learned and been taught by this group are priceless. \nSo picture this… Your own comfortable furniture. A glass of wine in your hand. Right there in your own house with friends\, old and new. And here’s the best part: You don’t even have to clean up anyone’s mess. We’re always happy to have new members join the fun and meet some people who enjoy wine. \nEach event has a theme\, but we never “kick anyone off the island\,” so it never matters if you follow the theme. Part of the fun is finding a wine to fit the theme. The setting is very casual\, with stories told about each of the wines we’re drinking\, what we do (or don’t) like about them\, where we got them\, and more. Varietal Hours will be held every other Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. \nAll you need is a computer (or phone) and internet connection. SUMMARY:October Winemakers Quarterly Meeting and Potluck
DESCRIPTION:The next Winemakers Group quarterly meeting and potluck will be on Saturday\, October 17\, from noon – 4:00 pm.  Signups are now open on the OCWS website.  The Huntington Beach location will be announced one week prior to the event.  Cost is $14 per person to cover supplies.  All OCWS members are welcome\, you don’t have to be a winemaker to attend. \nEach attendee\, or couple\, is asked to bring a potluck dish (appetizer\, salad\, side dish\, or dessert) ready to serve a small portion to 8 people.  Please bring any serving utensils necessary for your dish and a bottle of wine per person (homemade or commercial) to share.  Plates\, napkins and tableware will be furnished. \nWe’re hoping to taste many of the award-winning wines from the recent OC Fair Home Wine Competition.  Many of our talented winemakers earned double gold and other awards.  We will also have a short meeting to announce upcoming events. \nNew OCWS members\, we welcome you to organization and invite you to come and learn about winemaking from our group of experienced home winemakers.  Not sure if winemaking is for you?  You’re still welcome to see what our group is about and gain a greater appreciation of wine by learning about the winemaking process. \nWinemakers\, there will be SO2 testing for your wines prior to the meeting.  Our SO2 testing team led by Mike Paz will be conducting tests from 10:00am to noon on the same day and location prior to the potluck meeting. \nPlease email Mike by October 10 at: Michael.winemaker@icloud.com or text 714-318-9500 with the number of tests you will need and the varietals to be tested.  It is important we know ahead of time how many tests will be done so we can purchase supplies prior and have them on hand.  Testing fee is $5.00 per sample.  Bring a 100ml sample of each wine\, enough to test twice in case the test needs to be repeated. \nAttendance at the October meeting is extremely limited so sign up now!  Volunteers are needed to help set up prior and help clean up after the event.  You can sign up to help when you register to attend the event. \nI hope to see you all there! \nEd Reyes\ned@ocws.org

When we invest in a premium wine\, we have to ask ourselves: are we paying for an objectively exceptional product crafted with meticulous care\, or are we simply funding a grandiose\, fancy tasting room and high-end packaging? DESCRIPTION:Psst… we know a place. \nThe password is OCWS\, the wine is flowing\, and we’re turning back the clock 100 years for an evening inspired by the Roaring 20s. \nJoin us Saturday\, January 9\, as the OCWS Holiday Dinner & Dance transforms the Hilton Costa Mesa into the OCWS speakeasy. We’re kicking off 2027 by partying like it’s 1927—with great wine\, fabulous food\, music\, dancing and plenty of OCWS friends. \nAnd this year\, we’re back at the Hilton Costa Mesa—the same hotel many of you know as the home of our annual Commercial Wine Competition. \n Step Inside the Speakeasy \nSlip through the doors and start the evening with sparkling wine and an assortment of hors d’oeuvres before settling in for a multi-course plated dinner accompanied by hand-selected wines from the OCWS cellar. \nAfter dinner\, our DJ will get the dance floor jumping with favorite music from across the decades. Between dances\, stop by our 1920s-inspired photo booth\, have a complimentary keepsake photo taken by the OCWS Photography Committee or find a quieter spot to relax over a glass of wine and conversation. \n 1920s attire is encouraged\, but certainly not required. Flappers\, gangsters\, bootleggers\, dapper gents\, glamorous dames—or simply your favorite party attire—are all welcome.
