SUMMARY:Varietal Hour – Found at the Fair
DESCRIPTION:Join the fun on Tuesday nights from home \nAs we continue to celebrate OCWS 50th Anniversary\, Varietal Hours continue with new themes and new attendees. If you haven’t joined our Varietal Hours by now\, here is your chance. We have exciting new themes and have new members joining us at every meeting. We predict that 2026 will be filled with more exciting themes and revelations about wine. \nAnd the best thing? They are FREE. What started as a way of gathering during the COVID quarantines has blossomed into quality time with friends\, both old and new. And the things we have learned and been taught by this group are priceless. \nSo picture this… Your own comfortable furniture. A glass of wine in your hand. Right there in your own house with friends\, old and new. And here’s the best part: You don’t even have to clean up anyone’s mess. We’re always happy to have new members join the fun and meet some people who enjoy wine. \nEach event has a theme\, but we never “kick anyone off the island\,” so it never matters if you follow the theme. Part of the fun is finding a wine to fit the theme. The setting is very casual\, with stories told about each of the wines we’re drinking\, what we do (or don’t) like about them\, where we got them and more. Varietal Hours will be held every other Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. \nAll you need is a computer (or phone) and internet connection. If you are new to the Varietal Hours or to Zoom\, please feel free to contact Don Phillips at don@OCWS.org for help and information\, even if it means contacting him days before the event and he will walk you through the process and even do a short Zoom meeting\, just for you\, to get you comfortable with the process. \nThe event is open to all OCWS members\, but sign-ups are required. Please log on to the OCWS website to register for the event no later than 7 p.m. (24 hours before the event)\, the Monday night before the event. Couples only need to sign up for one person since this event is via Zoom. A link for the Zoom meeting will be emailed to you on the day of the event. \n  \n\n\n\nDATE\nTIME\nTHEME\nHOST\n\n\n6/9/2026\n7:00 PM\nNative American Wine\n\n\n\n6/23/2026\n7:00 PM\nCanadian Wine\n\n\n\n7/7/2026\n7:00 PM\nBizarre Blends\n\n\n\n8/18/2026\n7:00 PM\nFound at the Fair\n\n\n\n\nWe promise you four things: \nNo. 1: You will have fun. \nNo. 2: You might just learn something\, OR you might teach us something! \nNo. 3: You won’t regret spending that hour of your life. \nNo. 4: You won’t even have to drive home. \n—Don Phillips\, Varietal Hours Chair

SUMMARY:Follow the Call of the Disco Ball
DESCRIPTION:  \nOn October 10th\, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM\, the Orange County Wine Society will celebrate a remarkable milestone — 50 years of service\, community\, and wine education — with a dazzling Disco Party in our Wine Courtyard. Inspired by the organization’s founding year\, 1976\, the event embraces a vibrant retro theme complete with shimmering décor\, lively music\, and the joyful spirit that has defined OCWS for half a century. \nWith the help of our DJ\, Henry Martinez\, our courtyard will be transformed into our own high energy Studio 54\, featuring sparkling accents and festive props along with a mix of classic disco hits and modern favorites. \nTo mark the anniversary\, the event will include some fun games and contests\, including the crowning of Dancing King & Dancing Queen (the attendees with the best moves); and Disco King & Disco Queen (those whose attire fully embrace the theme!). Members can look forward to a variety of elevated food offerings from the Cooks Caucus\, selected to complement the evening’s festive mood. \nAttendees will have several fundraising opportunities\, from which all proceeds will go to our Scholarship fund. We will be featuring our Wine Wall where you can pick a mystery bottle for just $20! Remember to break open your piggybank beforehand as our Wine Wall is cash only! We are also encouraging members to donate a bottle valued at a minimum of  $20. OCWS “swag” including 50th Anniversary themed merchandise\, will be on hand for purchase. \nThe committee has also curated a collection of themed Gift Baskets for our Silent Auction\, with something to tempt every bidder — from wine and epicurean delights to décor and unique experiences. Be ready to bid on your favorites\, and if you win\, payment may be made by cash\, check\, or credit card. \nOnline registration is underway\, so visit our website for details\, including pricing and volunteer positions. \nThis celebration is more than a party — it’s a tribute to the volunteers\, members\, and supporters who have shaped OCWS over the past 50 years. The countdown to disco is officially on\, and the Wine Courtyard is ready to shine! \nCo-Chairs – JoBeth Skaggs and Tricia Shelton

SUMMARY:October Winemakers Quarterly Meeting and Potluck
DESCRIPTION:The next Winemakers Group quarterly meeting and potluck will be on Saturday\, October 17\, from noon – 4:00 pm.  Signups are now open on the OCWS website.  The Huntington Beach location will be announced one week prior to the event.  Cost is $14 per person to cover supplies.  All OCWS members are welcome\, you don’t have to be a winemaker to attend. \nEach attendee\, or couple\, is asked to bring a potluck dish (appetizer\, salad\, side dish\, or dessert) ready to serve a small portion to 8 people.  Please bring any serving utensils necessary for your dish and a bottle of wine per person (homemade or commercial) to share.  Plates\, napkins and tableware will be furnished. \nWe’re hoping to taste many of the award-winning wines from the recent OC Fair Home Wine Competition.  Many of our talented winemakers earned double gold and other awards.  We will also have a short meeting to announce upcoming events. \nNew OCWS members\, we welcome you to organization and invite you to come and learn about winemaking from our group of experienced home winemakers.  Not sure if winemaking is for you?  You’re still welcome to see what our group is about and gain a greater appreciation of wine by learning about the winemaking process. \nWinemakers\, there will be SO2 testing for your wines prior to the meeting.  Our SO2 testing team led by Mike Paz will be conducting tests from 10:00am to noon on the same day and location prior to the potluck meeting. \nPlease email Mike by October 10 at: Michael.winemaker@icloud.com or text 714-318-9500 with the number of tests you will need and the varietals to be tested.  It is important we know ahead of time how many tests will be done so we can purchase supplies prior and have them on hand.  Testing fee is $5.00 per sample.  Bring a 100ml sample of each wine\, enough to test twice in case the test needs to be repeated. \nAttendance at the October meeting is extremely limited so sign up now!  Volunteers are needed to help set up prior and help clean up after the event.  You can sign up to help when you register to attend the event. \nI hope to see you all there! \nEd Reyes\ned@ocws.org
